Story reply automations

A reply to one of your stories arrives as a direct message. A story reply automation answers it with a DM and can continue with the rest of a flow, like any DM conversation.

Set it up

   Create the automation

   Choose the Story reply trigger, or start from the Story reply thank you template.

   Decide on keywords

   Enter keywords to answer only replies that contain them, or leave the field empty to answer every story reply.

   Write the reply

   Add the message. {{first_name}} greets people by name.

   Test and publish

   Pick Story reply as the sample in Test flow, then publish.

How story replies are matched

• Story reply automations first

  When a story reply comes in, live story reply automations are checked first.

• Then DM keyword automations

  If none of them matches, your DM keyword automations get the chance to answer, as they would for a normal DM.

• Once a day without keywords

  An automation without keywords answers the same person at most once every 24 hours.

The person wrote to you, so Instagram's 24 hour messaging window is open and the whole flow can run, including quick replies and buttons. The ranking rules are on triggers and keywords.

Story replies show in the inbox with the note "Replied to your story", and the person is added to your contacts with the source Instagram story reply.
