Triggers and keywords
Trigger types
| Trigger | Starts the automation when |
|---|---|
| Comment keyword | Someone comments on a post or reel of a connected account. See comment to DM automations. |
| DM keyword | Someone sends a direct message to a connected account. |
| Story reply | Someone replies to one of your stories. See story reply automations. |
Set the trigger when you create the automation, or change it later on the trigger step in the flow builder.
Set keywords
Select the trigger step and enter the keywords in the Keywords field, separated by commas, for example link, free, price. Any one of them starts the automation.
- Whole words only
linkmatches "Link please!" but not "linkedin". A keyword can also be a phrase of several words. - Capital letters do not matter
GUIDE,Guideandguideare the same keyword. - No keywords means everything
An empty field answers every comment, or every DM or story reply. For DMs and story replies such an automation answers the same person at most once every 24 hours.
Which automation answers
Each comment, DM or story reply starts at most one automation. When several live automations match, ChatPeak picks in this order:
- 1The more specific group
For a comment, automations limited to that post come before automations for all posts. For a story reply, story reply automations come before DM keyword automations.
- 2Keyword matches first
Within a group, an automation whose keyword matched comes before one without keywords.
- 3Newest published first
Among equal matches, the most recently published automation answers.
Choosing a good keyword
- Short and distinctive
One word that rarely appears by accident, such as
guiderather thanyes. - Tied to the reward
A keyword that names what people get is easier to remember and to type.
More on this in choosing words people will actually comment. For an overview of automatic replies on Instagram, see Instagram auto reply.
